Stroke recovery is possible—and we're here to guide you every step of the way.
At Dr. JHA Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Centre, we provide evidence-based, patient-centered neurorehabilitation to help stroke survivors regain movement, function, confidence, and independence.
Grounded in the science of neuroplasticity, our rehabilitation program combines advanced physiotherapy techniques with medical acupuncture as part of an integrated approach to support functional recovery.
## Our Integrated Rehabilitation Approach
Every stroke survivor has a different recovery journey. Our rehabilitation program is individually designed according to the patient's condition, recovery stage, and functional goals.
Our approach may include:
* PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation)
* NDT (Neuro Developmental Treatment)
* Motor Learning & Task-Oriented Training
* Balance & Gait Training
* Functional Electrical Stimulation (when indicated)
* Medical Acupuncture
* Scalp Acupuncture
* Electroacupuncture
* Catgut Embedding Therapy (selected cases)
The goal is to provide personalized and intensive rehabilitation focused on meaningful functional improvement.
# What We Focus On
## Walking & Mobility
Stroke can affect walking, movement patterns, and the ability to move safely. Our rehabilitation focuses on improving walking ability, mobility, coordination, and confidence.
## Arm & Hand Function
We work on restoring functional movement and control of the affected arm and hand, helping patients perform everyday activities more independently.
## Balance & Coordination
Balance problems are common after stroke and can increase the risk of falls. Training focuses on improving static and dynamic balance, coordination, weight shifting, and safe movement.
## Posture & Trunk Control
Good postural control is essential for sitting, standing, walking, and performing daily activities. Rehabilitation addresses trunk stability, posture, and controlled movement.
## Strength & Endurance
Appropriate exercises and functional training help patients work toward improved strength, endurance, and physical capacity according to their individual abilities.
## Independence in Daily Activities
Our rehabilitation focuses on meaningful activities that patients need in everyday life, helping them work toward greater independence at home and in the community.
## Speech, Facial Function & Swallowing
When indicated, rehabilitation may also address difficulties involving speech, facial function, and swallowing, with appropriate professional assessment and referral where required.
## Quality of Life
Beyond physical recovery, our goal is to help stroke survivors regain confidence, independence, participation, and overall quality of life.
# Neuroplasticity & Stroke Recovery
The brain has an ability known as neuroplasticity, through which it can adapt and reorganize in response to learning, experience, and rehabilitation.
Repetitive, meaningful, and task-specific practice can help patients work toward improving functional abilities after stroke. Rehabilitation is therefore an important part of the recovery journey.
# Acupuncture as Part of Stroke Rehabilitation
Acupuncture is used alongside physiotherapy as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program. It is not a cure for stroke, and individual responses to treatment can vary.
Depending on the patient's condition and clinical assessment, the integrated program may include:
### Medical Acupuncture
Medical acupuncture may be incorporated alongside physiotherapy as part of an individualized rehabilitation plan.
### Scalp Acupuncture
Scalp acupuncture is a specialized acupuncture approach that may be used as an adjunct to neurological rehabilitation.
### Electroacupuncture
Electroacupuncture combines acupuncture with gentle electrical stimulation and may be incorporated to support specific rehabilitation goals when clinically appropriate.
### Catgut Embedding Therapy
Catgut embedding therapy involves placing absorbable sterile surgical material at selected acupuncture points to provide prolonged stimulation. It may be considered in selected cases as part of an individualized treatment plan.
# Recovery Can Continue Beyond the Early Stage
Whether recovery has just begun or your stroke occurred months or even years ago, rehabilitation may still have an important role in improving function and maintaining independence.
Every recovery journey is different. Progress depends on factors such as the type and severity of stroke, affected functions, overall health, and consistency with rehabilitation.
## Our Goal: Movement, Confidence & Independence
At Dr. JHA Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Centre, our mission is to help every stroke survivor work toward:
* Better movement and mobility
* Improved balance and coordination
* Greater independence
* Increased confidence
* Safer participation in daily activities
